Laser Vision Correction & Surgery Co-Management |
Everyone is talking about LASIK but what is it? In a LASIK procedure a flap is cut in the cornea and is then gently folded back. An Excimer Laser is used to reshape the cornea then the flap is put back in place, acting like a natural bandage.
With LASIK there is a very rapid recovery of vision and a decreased level of post-operative discomfort. Many people have functional vision in 24-48 hours however each person will heal at a different rate. Vision is greatly improved immediately after surgery and continues to improve for weeks or even months.
LASIK is not right for everyone. If you are interested in this procedure we will be happy to guide your decision in picking the best surgeon , procedure and laser for you.
For many long-term contact lens wearers my pre-operative input can make the difference between an excellent result and a mediocre one. Post-operatively we can monitor your eyes, and taper medications to arrive at the best possible result.
Our office provides co-management for many surgical services such as cataract, glaucoma, eyelid, and laser vision correction procedures.

Low Vision Care |
Some patients cannot see well with "standard" contact lenses and glasses. Usually these patients have suffered from an ocular disease like macular degeneration, untreated glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, or ocular strokes.
We have an entire process designed to help patients with low vision see better. We have lenses, devices, and rehabilitation services available to completely care for patients with these visual needs.

Orthokeratology |
Orthokeratology is known by a number of different names such as Ortho-K, VST - Vision Shaping Treatment, CRT - Corneal Refractive Therapy, and GVS - Gentle Vision Shaping.
In Orthokeratology a rigid lens is worn while sleeping. This specially designed lens molds your prescription into the front surface of your eye, which enables you to see without glasses or contact lenses while awake. There are no lenses to become contaminated, no fear of a lenses falling out at an inconvenient time, or problems with dust or dirt getting under a contact.
The technologies that have made this possible include a new more accurate way to measure the front of the eye with an instrument called a topographer. With the help of extended wear gas permeable contact lens materials, and computer driven contact lens lathes can produce lenses with very unusual shapes with extreme accuracy.
Unlike laser vision correction, this procedure is approved by the FDA for use on children. It has the additional side benefit of halting the development of myopia. In other words it can prevent their eyes from developing the need for stronger and stronger lens corrections for near-sightedness. For more information see: The Ortho-K Network.
